I saw an interesting statistic recently…

67% feel that having a pet is better for long term health than having a personal trainer!

Now, as a personal trainer I partially disagree BUT I also have a great pet…Tigger, my mut Min-Pin Mix.

Truth is studies (cited from Prevention Magazine)  show that if you have a dog, you’re up to 77% more likely to exercise. Plus, pet owners tend to have fewer medical problems, including lower risk of heart disease and high blood pressure and cholesterol levels. (prevention Oct 08)

I have to say that if it wasn’t for my Tigger I would never get my butt out of bed every morning to run. That little dog LOVES his morning run…and so do I. Together we walk my son to school and then I take off on a 30 minute run with the little guy.

It really sets the tone for my day and gets me going. I encourage you to take your dog for a walk, if you have one. If not, maybe consider adopting one from the local shelter. You’ll give a doggie a great home and most likely lower your blood pressure and cholesterol in the process.
